From the new shop in Spartanburg South Carolina, Noonan CEO and Engine Builder Jamie Noonan shares “It’s been 3 years since we’ve released a new 4.8 cylinder head to the market and we felt that it was time to develop new hardware so that our customers can stay ahead of their rivals. The new ‘Mach I Series’ is the evolution of the S600 and Blackhawk cylinder heads (even though they’re still winning championships, and setting ET & speed records around the globe). The Mach I Series will be available for Top Alcohol and Pro Mod, Blower and Turbo. With the on track success of the 4.9, this new Series cylinder head will give an added performance boost for the 4.8. It’s an exciting time for all Noonan Customers!”

HAMILTON, Ohio – If there ever was a definition of the ‘working man’ or ‘little guy’ in the NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car ranks, veteran racer Tony Bogolo would certainly fit the bill. While he experienced success on the IHRA circuit with a roots supercharger, Bogolo has made a steady ascension up the NHRA ranks since switching to a screw supercharger in 2012. After battling it out with former two-time Champ Chris Foster much of the year, Bogolo clinched his first championship in style with a win at the NHRA North Central Lucas Oil Regional Series finale at Gateway Motorsports Park just outside of St. Louis, Oct. 20-21.
Bogolo, who manufactures racing safety equipment with his company RamJet Racing Products in Hamilton, Ohio, didn’t make the decision to attend the St. Louis event until the last minute. Inclement weather pushed the schedule a day sooner than normal, putting the small volunteer team behind the proverbial eight ball from the start.
“We finally decided to go at the last minute,” said Bogolo. “We didn’t leave Ohio until 6:30 Friday morning. Then we found out they had moved both qualifying sessions to Friday. Luckily we had the car ready to go in the trailer, but we didn’t have very much time to get ready to run once we got there. Once we got to the track we found out they didn’t have any methanol fuel for sale, so we had to get some from Foster just to be able to run.”
“We had some ignition problems at our last few races, so I just bypassed all the retard boxes and ran it straight on the mag,” Bogolo continued. “I wasn’t able to use the six shooter like we normally do, so I just put a tune up I thought would go down the track. I was really surprised it ran a 5.56 (elapsed time) right out of the trailer like that. I figured it was going to run a .66 or so.”

Pomona - Duane Shields driving the PEAK A/Fuel Dragster ended the season valiantly in the quarterfinal round at the 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals. Duane lost a close race to Joey Severance despite making his quickest run of the event. Duane qualified fifth with a competitive 5.26 at 275 MPH. “The car ran solid every time down the track. This was the quickest field in history and the car ran good in qualifying and then we ran a little quicker in each round of eliminations which is what you want” Duane said.
In round one, Duane took on James Stevens who qualified twelfth with a 5.31. As the lights went green, Stevens got off the starting line first with an .042 reaction time to Duane’s .073. Stevens’ lead didn’t last long however as Duane was on a great pass and stopped the clock with another blistering 5.26 at 275 MPH to take win!
Advancing into the quarterfinals, Duane faced off with Joey Severance for the second weekend in a row. As the two cars staged and the lights came down Severance got off the line first with an .013 reaction time to Duane’s .058. Both cars were nearly side by side with Severance maintaining a slight lead. At the stripe it was Severance taking the win with a 5.24 at 273 MPH to Duane’s nearly identical 5.25 at 273 MPH. “It was a very close race and we ran really well but I was unable to close the gap to get the win” Duane said.
Looking towards next season, Duane is optimistic that the PEAK team will have a great year in 2018. “We finished this season strong with a very competitive car and that will move us forward going into next year. We just need a few breaks next season to go our way” he said. Duane would like to thank his team for a hard fought season and thank his sponsors PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil, Final Charge, Blue Def, NGK, GRP and Brad Anderson Enterprises for their continued support all season long.
