Epping NH - Duane Shields in the PEAK A/Fuel Dragster had a good outing at the NHRA Lucas Oil Regional event held at New England Dragway. The event was marketed as the "Night of Fire" complete with jet cars and some razzle dazzle so it attracted a lot of spectators. On Friday, the PEAK team along with several other race teams hosted a large group of kids from a local YMCA camp. Duane signed pictures and gave each of the visitors a PEAK racing hat.

As for the car’s performance, other than going a little too aggressive in the first qualifying round the car was back in the ultra competitive five twenty zone. Exactly eight cars showed up for the eight car field and Duane qualified second with a 5.28 at 275 MPH.

In round one of eliminations, Duane took on Dan Mercier. It ended up being a “see ya later” race as Mercier smoked the tires and Duane was on a clean run and stopped the timer with a respectable 5.31at 276 MPH for the win.

In the semifinals, Duane faced Josh Hart. This would be one of the best races of the night but sadly it didn’t turn out as the PEAK team had planned. Both cars left together but Hart had a slightly better ET and took the finish line stripe for the win. Hart ran a 5.23 at 271 MPH to Duane’s valiant 5.27 at 276 MPH. “I’m happy the car is running consistently well but I just can’t seem to get a break which you need to win one of these races. We’ll get another chance next weekend in Atco” Duane said.

Duane would like to thank PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil, Final Charge, Blue Def, NGK, GRP and Brad Anderson Enterprises for their ongoing support.
Woodburn, OR. (July 14, 2017) – It’s been a few months since A/Fuel Top Alcohol dragster driver Johnny Ahten has been strapped in to his racecar. The summer break is over and the DJ Safety / Combust Filters team is back in action this weekend at Woodburn Dragstrip for LODRS Regional racing. Laying in wait is Joey Severance, Shawn Cowie, Garrett Bateman, Kim Parker, Casey Grisel, and Todd Swinford. The 25th Anniversary of the Les Schwab Challenge/NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series set for this weekend and Ahten is ready to race.

“I have missed the feeling of being strapped in to the Stump Puller,” said Ahten. “When I feel the belts tightening I start to relax and begin to focus. The time off from racing was tough with a busy work schedule and preparing a second car. At the track I can concentrate on racing and leave all that behind. Woodburn is a great facility and we enjoy racing here.”

Joining Ahten Racing in Woodburn is special associate sponsors Godfather’s Pizza of Portland and Mitch Myers’ company EPHA Products (epha.com). Also supporting Johnny Ahten in Oregon is his son Owen, his dad and crew chief Al Ahten, team partner Howard Katano, Kevin “Shark” Colvell, and John Mark.

The Stump Puller is freshened-up and ready to battle the heavy hitters. Ahten and the team are anxious to begin their “second season” and turn some numbers and some heads. After earning a runner-up finish at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Joliet, Illinois, last year, Megan Meyer and her family-owned Top Alcohol Dragster were determined to walk away with the event win this year. This past weekend, they accomplished this goal. Megan competed alongside her teammate, Justin Ashley, who recently newly licensed to drive a Top Fuel Dragster. Megan and Justin finished out qualifying in the number three and ten positions, respectively, and Megan went on to compete in the JEGS Allstars Event on Saturday.

The JEGS Allstars Event is a battle of the champions of all of classes that make up the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. Megan has watched her father, Randy Meyer, compete in the JEGS Allstars Event multiple times over the years, which he won in 2014. As a rookie in the event this year, Megan represented the Top Alcohol Dragster Class in the Central Region, alongside Dean Dubbin. Megan competed against Richard Bourke in the opening round of eliminations and took him out with a 5.30 E.T. at 266 mph. Unfortunately Megan ended her chances of winning the JEGS Allstars with a red-light start in the semi-final round against Mia Tedesco, finishing in third place for the event.

Eliminations for the Route 66 Nationals kicked off on Sunday with Megan Meyer vs. Bob Sargent and Justin Ashley vs. Duane Shields. Megan got the round victory with a 5.31 E.T. at 269 mph, while Justin had tire-shake that slowed him down to a losing 6.07 E.T. Megan then defeated Chris Demke in second round with a 5.35 E.T. at 266 mph, and moved on to face Mia Tedesco in the semi-finals. This round was a repeat of last year, and Megan came out on top again with a consistent 5.35 E.T. at 268 mph but gave up lane choice to defending event champion, Joey Severance. Megan was off the starting line first against Joey, and although he pulled ahead of Megan, his broken blower belt led to Megan getting around him to cross the finish line first.
