    IHRA-Alky Funny Cars

AND, with maybe the exception of one car, the guys Martin are running NHRA-screws blowers set ups. I think just maybe IHRA (read Skooter Peaco) miss-read the fan appeal of these types of cars, and what they added to the overall quality off the show/race.

Yes, hind site is 20/20 but maybe they should not have messed around with Fuel Funny's for a couple of years, but saved Alky Funny's. IMHO the average fan really didn't care weather the Funny's were fuel or alky, they just wanted to see some Funny Cars race.

I believe IHRA may be starting realizing this now. Looks like some of the track operators have, as Alky Funny's were also booked for the Edmond, ALB race earlier this year.

Martin, also advertised Fuel Altered this weekend but I didn't see any listed on the results page.

At the Edmonton race, it was the race track owner (Rob Reeves) who advertised an 8 car open show for the TAFC's. I believe he knew that he needed more of a show to keep the fans happy, especially with the pro stocks not coming. Cudo's to Rob for keeping us involved, and hopefully it will continue next year.

The alky funny car show was an 8 car qualified field, and we were running NHRA rules (screw blower), although you could run a roots if you wanted.

Cudo's to Grand Bend as well, they had four local cars and brought in the Canadian Pro Mod class to fill in for the lack of Pro Mod cars.

Looks like the one car running a roots blower won. How about that?? Did the screw blower cars run out of parts??

IHRA...Bring back the AFC class. Leave the screw blowers at home.

If they did bring back the alky fc's, I wouldn't come back with a roots blower. I'm not going to have two different combinations hanging around again.

The screw blower is MUCH easier on parts than a roots. It's the o.d. limit that is allowed and the winding of the motor that hurts parts. A roots set up to run IHRA F/C and a screw set to make the same boost at whatever o.d. needed...the screw would be easier on the motor. If IHRA is smart, they'd make it a screw blower class....that's quite possibly the largest "if" ever.

Congrats Bogey, you knew all that work would pay off! But it was probably the tire balance job.

    Good for Tony. :)

Like to see him going rounds and winning. We were at the shop and had no idea he had made the switch.

We like to see roots blower cars winning rounds. I like to root for the racer who is the underdog. Today it is usually the guy pulling in new strips every couple races.

I cannot knock anyone that works hard on their set up. I appreciate everyone that enters a car in TAD or TAFC.

You got a screw for the altered yet? You could start saving parts $ next weekend if you had one.

    TAFC and IHRA?

IHRA is not to be thanked for keeping funny cars alive, it is the track owners that deserve the credit. Hats off to them. I have heard on more than one occasion now that IHRA want's alcohol funny cars back in the pro show, problem is that they want to cut the payout from 10,000 to win, down to 2500.I'm not sure of any team that can afford to follow the pro circuit for a 2500 purse, and a trophy for winning the championship at the end of the year. Then you have the late night, run you after top fuel deal like on Saturday night. 10:30 pm? Thats when you want us to run? Safety seems to be left up to the f/c teams and not the sanctioning body. The same body that took a great big shit an all funny cars in the first place.

It must be hard to support IHRA after all they did to the racers, and fans.
Just ask those who did this weekend. Ask them how IHRA messed with the run order so that it suited them. Then had to run at 10:30 at night. Ask them how it went from an 8 car field to a 6 car field. Ask them how it feels to have the first three qualifing runs not even count. Just so that everybody is straight... you HAD to run at 10:30 on Saturday night to come back and race on Sunday. I could not believe my eyes when I read that on DRC.

I remember Tim Stevens bashing IHRA on this very site. Did you forget how you felt then? How does it feel now. I'm curious.

No alcohol funny car should race for table scraps, a lack of regard for the racers safety, and a serious lack of respect for a class that deserves much more than that. It is obvious that the class is missed by IHRA, I wish I could say that the feeling is mutual.

    Regards
    Kyle Harris

Get you facts straight (whoever you are). What do you mean the field went from 8-cars to 6-cars?? There were 8-slots on the run order for first round.....I think that meant 8-cars. You did NOT have to run the 10:30 to run on Sunday (although the qualifying order was ALL screwed up) And YES, we did get the shaft from IHRA this year, I feel its safe to say, ALL us IHRA AFC racers felt the same. We had a GREAT time this weekend overall. It was great to see some of our old IHRA friends, they have some great people working there. And you are CORRECT, I was VERY disappointed to have to spend $26,000 to convert the car to NHRA specs this winter to race for a LOT less money!! Makes me think twice sometimes. Maybe tire shake HAS rattled my brains loose. Would I like to see IHRA bring us back........YES...but ONLY if we run under the same rules as NHRA! Time will tell, Tim
