Las Vegas - Duane Shields and the PEAK A/Fuel Dragster team turned in a solid performance at what is arguably one of the toughest fields on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Circuit at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Duane went all the way to the final four and qualified in an 8 car field where 16 teams were fighting hard to get in. Duane made it into the elite field at the sixth position with a 5.34 at 271 MPH.
In round one, Duane raced against Bill Litton who qualified third with a 5.32. As the lights came down, Duane was on his game and left the line first by a substantial margin. This was an important factor in the race as Duane shook the tires and had to pedal to regain traction. His skills paid off as he grabbed the win with a 5.44 at 264 MPH to Litton’s 5.53 at 276 MPH.
In the semi-finals the PEAK Dragster went up against the recently crowned National Champion Joey Severance. At the hit, Severance got out first with an .028 to Duane’s .067. Severance won the race by less than 30 feet with a 5.27 at 272 MPH to Duane’s valiant 5.34 at 268 MPH. “It was a solid run for us but we came up a little short. We will go to Pomona later in the week and try to win it” Duane said after the run.
Next week, the season comes to a conclusion at Auto Club Raceway for the Auto Club NHRA Finals. Duane would like to thank PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil, Final Charge, Blue Def, NGK, GRP and Brad Anderson Enterprises for their support.
