    afc

Wouldn,t that car qualify for most nhra races? How fast would a afc with a m-5 or tricked out kobelco or psi1471 be on a nhra prepped track. I think theres still a weight break for roots blowers in nhra.I doubt you could make them lighter though, My littlefield 14 with hat weighs more than a psi-d mag hat and short deck mag manifold on our dragster, I can take the whole thing off as one unit, myself.

I was just on IHRA's web site looking the new 2009 rules that are posted
every class has updates to the rules except NFC and AFC
nothing mentioned about either class, looks as if they have no intention of having either class in 09
I say put a fork in it it is done...

I will be at PRI this coming week and will report the minute I hear anything, good or bad from the IHRA Booth. They keep saying that is the drop-dead date and I have told my sponsors we HAVE to make our ultimate decision by next weekend!

IHRA has not had a booth at PRI, instead they walk up and down the aisles taking advantage of all the exhibitors who pay for their space so that there can be a show.

i cant believe you all are up in arms , jumping up and down like you can't believe this is happening. c'mon. years ago, there would be 40 cars trying to qualify, and what happened, they cut it to 8 car fields. AFC hasn't had a shootout in how many years, hardly any promotions for its champs, or much less its dedicated racers, and not to mention for how many years IHRA has waited till the week of the opener to anounce whether or not you all can race and you still sit here and throw fits. now all of you have been cut from 3 choices to 2. IHRA is probably out so now you can buy a screwblower, or buy something with doors. I think it sucks for all of you , but stop saying you cant believe they are doing this cause IHRA has been planning this for a long time. I wish you all the best.

with only one IHRA race out here in the northwest afew racers made the commitment to have both a screw, and roots blower tune. too bad afew more back east didnt. yeah it costs, so is the complete loss of a place to race. for those that have ran both, whats so special about NHRA ? did they pay that much better? I cant believe anybody makes wages on winnings  maybe its good enough to be called "sportsman" racers. ;)it may have been only a title, but at least you were considered a pro-class with IHRA.

Well John, as you can see here, I am NOT using my EXTINCT IHRA car number anymore. I just hope I can keep the same one for NHRA as it is PAINTED on our beautiful new paint job! Yes, its official, Team Michfabmotorsports.com is going NHRA in 2009! Why you ask? Did I hear something from IHRA as we were told we would at this show? NO, not a sign of ANYONE from IHRA!? That says enough for me as I told my sponsors I would make a decision this weekend (as it isn,t a "quick" switch), so decision has been made. Man, sure gonna miss them (where are you Bill Bader?!) I don't think I will be lonley in NHRA Div 3 though?? Looking forward to the new challenge!

    Support

We must support TAFC in NHRA! Its the only place left now. If IHRA ever brings it back there will plenty of cars for them to attract! With NHRA rules!

Had that same conversation "With NHRA Rules!" They couldn't possible think we would sell our screw stuff next year just to buy the latest roots technology just to run MAYBE another season??!! ya, they probably would:rolleyes:

Im curious what size pumps are you running in your afc's. Im no Screw Guru but if its a .800 gear waterman this is what Id do. #1 #3 #5 #8 -.070 #2 #4 -.065 #6 #7 -.074 with the back of the restrictor plate opened up and 4 aerated .080's in the blower. Plug off all the returns except the -8 idle @ 20psi and the .080 low gear15psi and the .050 second gear15psi depends on the track. You might have to grind the v in the spool valve to a .080 wide slot and open the 1/4'' idle/secondary in it to 5/16. With the magic .080 main it, it might be fat at the pittle bitty 92% od so either a pump loop 15psi or .750 gears. Remember NHRA is going to make you take out your 4.71 ring&pinions for no lower than 4.33. This is a Alaska winter tune up so you might want to send your stuff to Randy Anderson.

    economics

just throwing together a fuel system off what someone says, what you've seen or out of a book

    vs.

sending your fuel system to someone like randy anderson, that has a number of top running tafc's running his fuel system.

if you do it yourself, how many runs do you realistically think it will take you to get barrel valve (leakdown, idle and spool), nozzling and nozzle area, checks, and flow good enough to run 5.60's or better? maybe you can do it in 5 or less. if so, you need to count yourself as a fuel system guru.

if not, you pay someone like Randy Anderson $1800 to flow your system. you bolt it on and you're within .010 on the main jet (everyone's blower, motor, etc. is different). you'll also get a baseline tune up that will get you within the .70's to .60's right off the bat.

$1800 is roughly the cost, give or take of one run down the track.

seems like a lot, until you compare how many runs it may take you to do it on your own.

this message was approved by the racers for randy fund...:D

Just ordered my Screw blower today:cool: If by some miracle IHRA does find some $$ or realize they made a BIG mistake trying to sell a show without Funny Cars, Laurie is going to be quite lonley over there. If IHRA does come back they should SERIOUSLEY consider matching NHRA's rules. Not many roots blowers left on Funny Cars left is there?? Aaron, Skooter....PLEASE think about this!

I foresee more cars at nhra divisionals on that side. What are the odds on 16 car fields. Peace
