What would be a safe minimum clearance between the piston and the head on a blown alky set up, grp alum rods, JE flat top pistons, copper head gaskets, low rpm max at 8500. BBC ?

    Thanks again for the help

    piston to head clearance

Is there any issues if you close it up to .035 to .040?

Are you running alloy or steel rods,I can't say for steel rods but if your using alloy rods,35-40 will definatly cause you issues, also what block are you using, alloy rods will and can grow more than that during a run !!!!

with an aluminum block Ive run the pistons out .020 withe a .053 gasket. and the pistons just had a shadow of the head.

I would say .065-.070 would be safe.

On a big bore engine (632) I've run as close as .060 with aluminum rods. And one bank of pistons would just touch the head with piston rock.
