I may be wrong but the way I read it converter drive units are ok. The driver must manually shift gears.

Rumor is no converters period and amendments will be coming shortly to the rulebook. Anyone know who was running a converter in NHRA trim?....sidenote I'm looking for a spare converter:cool:

There was an 'and' to note two issues and two changes.

"These issues were the use of automated shifting devices with a manual transmission ...and... the use of an automatic transmission"

So, no automated shifters for a manual trans....and....no automatic transmissions is how I read it.

Sounds to me like they thought there was not enough excitement from drivers jerking the wheel when they shift. Jerking the wheel helps send a fast car towards the centerline or the wall really quick.

The crowd can't see if the driver is shifting manually or if it is happening by an automated control so what is the rational?

And what's wrong with having a converter drive or automatic? Seems like the clutch vs auto/converter drive is played up almost as much as the Blower vs Nitrous rivalry.

    Automated drivers?

The issue was if the driver should shift the car or not. Personally I think that the driver should be able to DRIVE the car and SHIFT it. Otherwise automated shifting should be mandatory in all classes if shifting it is a safety hazard. Hey, why not replace the driver with a remote control system, that is the safest way to go for sure:rolleyes:.
