I wonder what manzo is doing?

I believe Manzo improves every year. So yeah, I believe the Santos/Grimes/O'bannon, and Shields(among others) teams could have run faster in Topeka.

    Marty,

If you believe we have a distinct advantage............then buy an A-fueler and show us what you're talking about.;) Do you really think Bushey could/would be running in the 4's. Maybe YOU should look into the rule changes that we/AFD's had to deal with over the last SEVERAL years.

I agree with the budget scenario but come on........"same parts as were back then"? Not really.

"I don't understand how people could enjoy winning, knowing that the other guy wasn't givin a fair chance." Well, I guess we forgot about the first 20 or so years of this class.

Friday and Saturday? How about Sunday?

    Having a great day, thanks.

BTW, Just havin fun with ya.......have a great evening.

    Thanks, Will. Love the site!

    QUOTE=310TAD;70876]Larry,
When are you going to buy a blown deal and show us what you're talking about? That's like me saying I think the A-fuel cars would be running 4.90's if Chess Bushey (sp) was still running. Speculation is just that.
We are limited to the same parts as were back then, and the tune-up was 99% wrung out then. Also, most teams don't have $890,000.00 a year (more with inflation) to spend like Mr. O'Banons. Also, the C blower is recognized more easily these days. I've made runs quicker & faster than Mr. Santos, although I'll never claim to be as good as his team. Mr. Grimes & company were the best ever, in this class.
Friday and Saturday at Topeka favored the blown combination. Unfortunately, with our current rules the A-fuel combination is favored approiximately 85% of the time. I don't understand how people could enjoy winning, knowing that the other guy wasn't givin a fair chance.
    Have a great day.

Have any of you noticed that IHRA has no A/F or TA/D, maybe thats the answer to all the pariaty, every one switch to TA/FC, no bull $hit with differant rules for A/F or TA /D, the only thing you have to over come is MANZO! think your up to it????:D

If AFD's don't have a distinct advantage, why would you "guess we forgot about the first 20 or so years of class"?

And when you mention the first 20 or so years, are you including Brooks Brown, Chess Bushey, Keith Stark, and Ed Vickroy outrunning the Johnsons, Barneys, Baird, and Conways of the world?

Running an AFD is definitely the easier way to go, which I would assume makes it all the more depressing when someone can't win with one.

Not wanting to put fuel to ANY fire, but here's some interesting info from the past that is cogent to the discussion. And the great Keith Stark's efforts should be remembered along with this below.

When Vickroy ran the 5.77, 253 @ Pomona in Roger O'Dell's Gene Adams tuned racer it weighed 1567lb with the now 175 pound Vickroy weighing 220lb and with A LEGAL FOR THAT TIME 565 C.I. Arias.( I may be off by a pound or two or a cubic inch- go back to the old rule books). Might have even had a three speed in it, it was built for one.

Anyone who saw him run the 248 earlier run with then TAD Champ Blaine Johnson in the other lane demonstrated what the future potential of AFD could have been. (Watching Don Enriquez' 238 mph runs in the same car at the LACR points race just previous-at night was equally awesome and demontrated again the power of Ch3No2 unblown). But, rightfully, the level playing field rules came to be.
