we still have the problem, we just change the bearing after every race. we may try to get someone to pin the front main for us this winter.

This is an old thread, but newer info.
The fuel guy I talked to had the same issue with the front bearing.
The fuel guys (cars and some boats) now use thrust bearings on every cap. The cap width is cut so the thrust bearing fits. The thrust face is then cut so not to hit anything. This is dont NOT to control thrust, but to prevent the issue you are having. Or put another way... their cap bearings have "keepers" or "movement preventers" on them.
    Hope that makes sense.

Oh, this is a KB block, so thrust bearings are similar width. Chevy stuff will be different. I'd pin em.

Has Lowell at New Century been asked about this? Seems from the posts above that this is not limited to New Century blocks but it may be more a combination thing....

I am interested in this thread as I have a New Century block on the way

    front bering problems

We just got another block from Lowell at New Century and we had him pin the front bearing. We hope this will fix the problem.

Are you making sure that when you tighten up the front support bracket that you do not pre load the bearing ???

You fit the crank support with the bearing housing loosened off a little and then turn the engine over several times to centre the bearing on the hub... Then tighten the bearing housing... This allows for any minor run out on the hub...
