    parachute problems

    I bought my first real race car in 1976, it came with a parachute but no directions on how to pack it. So I took it out of the pack and repacked it. Sat on my p/u tailgate, put the loop over the trailer ball and had a friend drive 60 or 70 mph down a gravel road in the hills. Pulled the pin and the chute deployed but didn't open so I shook the lines. It opened almost instantly and pulled me right off the tailgate. I bounced once then the chute scooped me up and I got drug down the gravel road for what seemed like forever. My first thought when I got myself off the ground was to look around to see if anybody out there saw anything. I knew I could buy my friend off with beer- well apparently the cost of silence is going up so I decided to post this before his embellished version really made me look like a tard-Dave Germain

    I think I just pissed myself

    That is the funniest thing I have heard in a LONG TIME. The mental picture of this will forever be embedded in my mind. Thanks for being humble. :)

    Forgot

    The pole of shame, sounds like the one I made that I'll be starting with. Needed something to hold up the body while I mocked everything up before the body was repaired so I stick welded one out of 1 by 1" mild square tube, some plate, and a bigger pipe cut in half for the saddles. I welded like crap because I couldn't find my helmet and cutting torch glasses didn't work. When I got finished it worked but had a 1" bow to the left....still does.
