Are you trying to seal out noise or fumes, or both? If you want to seal out noise, have you thought about using the same material as that stuck to the underside of the bonnet of a production car? It's designed to withstand heat too...

    Just a thought,
    Paul.

I have the same set up, Onan 6.5 generator in side my 36 ft. gooseneck. I built a wood frame with a door at one end so I can remove the generator for service and also made the top part of my bench but it can lift up on hinges so I can open the top and fuel the generator with out moving it. I made it a little bigger than I needed and put 2 inch thich foam on all surfaces (including the door) except the floor and door to the out side. It helped to quiet the gen down..

    Generator sound proofing

Give me a call, Generators is what we do. Generally not this small but it is all relative. I can give you some ideas on how to quiet it down, some economical, some expensive.

    sound proofing

Most of the trailer builders use the same styrofoam ( spray or sheet) sound proofing material the home improvement stores sell. If you can find it you can also use the automotive/RV style material with the silver backing on one side. If your Onan is not a Super Quite model find a muffler like the ones used on hospital emergency power generators. They were pretty popular with the trailer builders until Onan came out the the Super Quite line. Don't over do the sealing up. Years ago I sealed one up so good it tried to boil the fuel out of it, and yes that was with the muffler mounted outside. That generator motor does get hot. Hope that helps Terry 972-977-8340

make sure it has somewhere to blow the hot air out from the fan...or if it's just air cooled, needs somewhere, usually a hole in the bottom to let the heat out.

Make sure the exhaust doesn't go into the living courters. The pulling world had a tragedy where a young man never woke up. It was a big event, lots of us were there. No one noticed that it might happen. The portable generator exhaust must have been swirling into the trailer which had living courters in the front.

Even if adequate amounts of oxygen is in the air, the body absorbs the carbon monoxide.
