He’s Back! Comella Gets Back Into Old Form

Norwalk, Ohio – Traditionally, the World Nationals have never been a source
of success for Mentor, Ohio-native, Mike Comella. But any misfortune he has
had their in the past was quickly overwritten by his success at this year’s
    event.

Comella shocked the Funny Car field by driving his Mickey Thompson-backed
Corvette into the field in the No. 7 spot.

In an effort to prove that he deserved to be there, Comella then took out
the No. 2 qualifier in the first round.

Paired with Terry Munroe in his first round of national event competition in
over a year, Comella landed a .054 reaction time to Munroe’s .072. He
finished off the one-two punch, by taking the finish line first with a
    5.933/237.84 run over Munroe’s 5.958/235.31 effort.

Making a semi-final appearance against Jim Sickles, Comella was prepared to
come out with both guns blazing.

“I was ready for him,” Comella added.

Leaving the starting line first, (.066 to a .073) Comella looked to be
headed for a tight drag race. However, the Mickey Thompson car got out of
shape around half track, and in the process of correcting the car, Comella
crossed the centerline, disqualifying him from the race.

“It felt so good to be back in competitive form,” Comella said. “I had been
running so well, that I hadn’t been able to see anyone else in the other
lane all weekend, and I kind of liked that!”

Fueled by success, Comella is hoping to get the Mickey Thompson car out on
the track again before the end of the year.

“We really want to do good for Mickey Thompson and doing as well as we did
this weekend at both Mickey Thompson and our home track was wonderful.”
