In my blown gas deal I've tested a bunch of different rings. The ones that survive the best are the Total Seal "AP" dykes. These are a conventional ring.
Contact Keith Jones, very knowledgable ring guy http://www.totalseal.com/

Total Seal will soon be manufacturing tool steel rings. When they get to that point, then the question as to where to go will be a no-brainer. Ask for Keith @ TS.

    rings

I run the hell fire they seem ok and live good on a dart cylinder wall. 38 psi boost 12.7 comp and not too pricey

The Hellfires and the Xtremes are pretty close to the same thing. I know that TOL probably doesn't want to hear this but both the Xtremes and the Hellfires came out and replaced the toolsteel rings that Childs & Alberts made because the toolsteel didn't hold up and maintain their tension under extreme heat.

Mike, you've made that comment before and I certainly respect your opinion. For me personally I've tried a lot of different ring combinations in my blown gas deal. It's about as harsh a ring envirorment as you can get. In making my final decision to run the APSteel dyke vs the hellfire I actually ran 4 of each at once on each side.
I now run the .017 AP steel dykes, what can I say!

I do know that the hellfires seem to be harsher on the cylinder walls also. More cylinder dust on the magnet in the filters.

I guess it's like a lot of other stuff.........peanut butter, smooth or chunky?

    Blessings........Ron.

    ??? I'm confused.......

I talked at length with Ackerly & Childs not too long ago, when sourcing rings for my deal. I was told that the Xtreme were tool steel, and I was under the impression that the Hellfires were a lesser material. Mike I agree with your original post in that currently the best rings are the Ackerly & Childs Xtreme rings. However, Keith advised that TS will very soon be making rings out of the exact same material as the Xtreme rings, but in my bore size (which A&C do not carry). Both companies called the material "tool steel" but neither gave up the specific metalurgy. Mike, I think you & I are saying the same thing and are in agreement with each other.

I am pretty sure that the Xtremes we use are not tool steel. We used C&A tool steels on the nitrous motor years back.

Okay. Well, whatever material the Xtreme rings are made of, one will soon be able to get the exact same thing from TS, whatever that material is. We are on the same page and we agree, I think......

I thought most all of the good rings for extreme heat and pressure were some type of iron?
