Callaway to make 2006 debut at home track

BAYTOWN, Texas - Despite getting a late start to the season, former NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Lee Callaway is set to kick off his 2006 season at his home track during this weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park. Callaway will also debut two new associate sponsors Houston Truck Parts and CalTrans Trucking at this weekend's event.

Callaway, who lives within earshot of the track in Baytown, comes into the event off of a strong finish to the 2005 season, where he mounted a late season charge to finish second in Division 4 standings.

"We just want to pick up where we left off last season," said Callaway. "We ran career-best numbers right at the end of the season and finally got the car into the 5.30's at 264 mph. We tried to lighten the car up a bit with a new mag body over the offseason. We got a few new things we are going to try to hopefully step the car up."

With HRP's racing surface known for holding record-breaking times, Callaway is looking to better his 5.39 at 264 mph from last year.

"We have some new associate sponsors Houston Truck Parts and CalTrans Trucking that will be on hand this weekend," stated Callaway. "Tejano Salsa is back on board this year and will be out cooking for our team. We want to make a good outing for our guests, friends and family. With the way the A/Fuel cars are running it will take the low 5.30's to make the late rounds on Sunday, and that's where we're gunning."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions. Qualifying will conclude Saturday morning with one final session, followed by round one of eliminations in the afternoon. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
