    Testing, One, Two

ANAHEIM, CA — Dennis Taylor and the Plumbing Concepts crew are logging lots of extra hours in Sin City. Following last weekend’s national event, the team rolled into town and tested on Monday in preparation for this weekend’s Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series season finale. Dennis commented, “We made two hits and found we were on to something. It was about 88 degrees and the altitude was 4,200 feet above sea level. In spite of that, the car ran well.” His confidence was bolstered by the dedication of Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez. After less than favorable results in their last two outings at Chicago and Dallas, Ora sharpened his pencil and hammered out some new clutch application settings.

Vasquez mentioned, “The car was wanting to spin the tires upstairs (past half-track), so we needed to re-evaluate the timing of our clutch lock-up events. Judging by Monday’s test session, we seem to be in good shape.” Team Taylor returns to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday October 27 for more investigative hot laps. All this preparation is necessary, as this race will determine the 2005 Lucas Oil Series Division 7 Champion. For several weeks, Dennis Taylor sat atop the division standings, only to be nudged into second place by Steve Gasparrelli, following that team’s recent out-of-division victory.

The way this picture shapes up, if Dennis and Steve make it to the final round, Taylor has to win the event to take the crown. That’s no easy feat, with anywhere from 15 to 20 top-caliber cars descending on Las Vegas. As far as the national points picture goes, Taylor figures he can finish no worse than sixth, though a repeat of last year’s fourth-place national finish is also possible. Following this weekend’s LODRS battle is the season-ending Auto Club Finals at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. With the national championship already sewn up by Schenectady New York’s Bob Newberry in the Valvoline Monte Carlo, it’s unlikely we’ll see any of the East Coast hitters at Pomona. However, please stay tuned as the Division 7 championship chase will go right down to the wire.

Price Pfister Pfaucet of Pfacts: The Plumbing Concepts Camaro comes to life after a 48-volt aircraft starter is locked to the supercharger drive. The equivalent of four passenger car batteries juices the high-compression Hemi engine to approximately 10,000rpm, and in turn, activates the oil, fuel, and ignition systems. After a quick check of the vitals, Taylor rolls through the waterbox and hammers the throttle laying down a warm sticky trail of Mickey Thompson rubber.
