I have a 469 big block chev with an no stripped 871 at 15 over and a bug catcher on methanol. The car is a 3/4 chassis Chevy monza with a powerglide. The engine lopes or hunts a lot and makes it difficult to stage, has anyone got a reason for this and how to reduce it? The fans love it but it’s bloody hard to stage it.

Give the bugcatcher a tiny bit more gap on the blades, and adjust the idle rpm if needed with the barrel valve.

Surge indicates that it is too rich at idle. Lean the BV some flats until it idles acceptably smoothly, then crack the throttle to be sure it does not stumble. If it stumbles it is too lean, richen it up a flat at a time till the stumble is gone. Jeff J
