timing controller

    what is the best timing controller to use in tafc msd or electimotion

    The Grid is simply a timing controller that you have to plug into with a USB cable to change timing. Works very well and is very reliable. You can add plug and play timing control box later if you want to control fuel leanouts. The Grid also internally records the run and if you have problems during the run it can be replayed to see if it was an ignition or crank sensor.
    Electromotion offers the Command Module which controls timing and has fuel timers. One thing that is nice you can make your timing changes in the trailer and download it onto a SD card and walk it out to the car and insert it into the Control Box. You can also easily make changes in the staging area by using the LCD window. Does not have internal recording for trouble shooting and comes with fuel timers whether you use them or not.
    Both systems are very reliable and easy to use. The Grid is probably a little easier to learn and is cheaper

    I prefer the command module. You can output things based on rpm, time or both. We use it for the shift lights, which can be set at different RPM’s if you like, and the fuel timers. It also offers a (3) input start. Meaning, you can start or stop channels off WOT switch, the 1-2 gear change or the 2-3 gear change. It has an option for idle retard which comes off when the WOT switch makes and there is also an option for a shift retard as well where it pulls X amount of timing and ramps it back on over Y amount of time. It has the safety box features already built in so it’s all plug and play. I also like that the software allows you to overlay an old timing graph over your current timing graph. You can also have a few tunes loaded to the SD card and load them in the lanes as well, just don’t get them confused. All that being said, you will need something to monitor timing with the command module. The grid will send over timing data and anything else you want to log via the can bus. Both work well, I think it’s more of a personal preference.

    anybody know nif crank trigger is required to run grid and control timing?

    I had the command module and loved it. Was simplistic and always did the job. I switched over to FuelTech and wasn't as impressed at first. After a season I realized I loved it even more. And the monitor right in the car to make any adjustment possible. Load multiple runs at a time and does everything without having to piggy back other modules into it. Plus it works as a recorder as well. Never lose a run again from crew member forgetting to push the record button. Only draw back is the auto shut off must come from Lahee still.

    No a crank trigger is not required with the Grid or the Command module but highly recommended. Figure on one degree of timing is worth about a 100 hp so if you timing is jumping around then it makes a big difference
