I hear a lot of talk about "Lightweight" Pro Mods, be it old PDRA Pro Extreme vehicles or others.

I've often wondered what exactly are they doing to make them lightweight yet still legal?

Can anyone with knowledge or experience fill me in a bit?

    Thanks!

Lots of titanium and attention to detail. Powder coat is much heavier than paint. They make light weight carbon bodies and wheel tubs. Titanium firewall, pedals, rear tree, front tree. aluminum or plastic bolts in non critical parts. Some guys run titanium wishbone parts and titanium upper fourlink bars. You add up those 5-10 lbs savings and it amounts to a whole bunch. If you look hard enough there’s lots of “regular things” that can be made lighter.

Thanks Rob. I get what you are saying. Two things I don't quite get though are "rear tree" and "front tree". Can you expand? Thx.

The front tree being all the tubing and such in the front end. The rear tree being all the piping in the back past the anti roll. They slide the titanium in and bolt it, once if past a certain point it’s body mounts and parachute mounts. They can also make the parachute mount out of Ti. Let’s not forget about the carbon wheelie bars and carbon drives shafts. You can also lose weight in your transmission choices. B&J has a lighter weight option now days, I believe Lenco was working on some as well. The liberty is pretty light and takes almost nothing to turn in gear. The liberty mag case is a little lighter than their billet one, but ain’t nearly as pretty. Your wheel/tire selection plays a role as well.
