combo: 526 BBC brodix block/heads. littlefield 1471 HHR (probably 90's vintage). Enderle BIRD catcher hat. k valve. set up by gore. 30%OD.

I am at that 30# boost mark I have heard not to exceed with standard BBC block configuration and I need to be a little faster.

Question: Would a different hat offer any efficiencies to my combo hat would increase HP without increasing boost?

Open to other ideas as well.

    Thanks ITA!

If the hat change results in horsepower change then there has to have been a boost change. I bet any change to a carbon fiber hat with a matching spacer would be an improvement over a Bird

Remember boost is resistance to flow. What heads you using? Improved flow equals lower boost given the rest the same, the way I understand. So, even with a lower boost number, you mightt reach the limit of your bottom end.

You are correct. I changed heads, same cam, same OD on blower, lost 3#s of boost.

Wow, three pounds of boost increase. I bet the new hat matched the opening in the top of the blower better than the old one. Three pounds is a ton of boost.

I cant remember easily, but it was one of those 4 hole boat injectors that psi made, I have pic of it, but don't remember measuring it. and yes there was a few adapters between it and the blower, the carbon fit right, and was more directed at the front of the blower, and yes we were very surprised!

I ran a 14/71 on a solid BMF head with 13.5:1 CR at 44 OD. Made 47lbs of boost and had zero issue. At 3450 lbs on a radial back then. Oddys camshaft It wasnt until we started trying to spin it above 8800 that I started having issues with the line bore.

The std enderle bird was, and still is a great hat, the problem with it now is the openings on the blowers are shorter, so the back of the injector becomes a low pressure eddy, air like to go to low pressure areas, by closing that area off, like the big and ugly, and other similar types, it’s a 2-3 lb gain easily, there are a lot of things that make injectors better, but the best is to match the openings
