Hey Bob, they are approx 30 lbs lighter but otherwise I am unaware of any advantage.

    Best wishes,

nothing as exciting as fc or pro mod. trying to decide on a combo for some fast bracket racing looking for around 1500 hp. reliability and parts availability more important than top hp.

I love a hemi but for what you want I think some version of a BBC is the best choice.

well from a rational standpoint it's hard to argue that. but I have had a love- hate relationship with the hemis since my first hemi car in high school in 1976 , and I'm just not sure I could pull the hood off my 70 cuda and see a bbc nestled between the frame rails. but to your point it would be nice when you need a part to just walk over to the next trailer and he probably has it on the shelf.

if you are only looking to make that type of hp then you can do it with a fuel headed hemi, parts are cheaper. This is the design head that was originally in that car. Hemis are there own type of motor there are the little things that make the difference in one.

thanks for the input guys, now that you know what I have in mind what are your thoughts on a block there are a few bae and tfx 96 pieces floating around for sale . I know they take some different parts but do you think one is a better place to start.

If you're starting with nothing, I'd definitely suggest getting an entire package. That way you'll have all the little pieces that you don't think about, rather than piecing it together and having to figure out what's missing. (plus all the little pieces can really nickle and dime you)

I don't think there's any real advantage of one over the other in regards to TFX and BAE/KB bottom end, especially for what you're building. Each has its own front drive and pan patterns, so once you pick a direction you're locked in on the block and bolt on components. I used to think that BAE/KB components were easier to come by, but I'm not sure that's really the case.

If you're looking, I have a complete hat to pan 526 KB / BAE fuel head combo set up for alcohol that I got for a stalled project that I'm considering getting rid of.

There are some theories relating to piston speed and dwell time, but Manzo said he didn't see any performance difference in a Pro Mod. They became pretty common in Pro Mod due to the weight savings, and they have became a little more common in TAFC. Another plus for a FC is you pick up close to .4" of visibility. The shorter rod may be a little harder on rings if you are comparing long term viability. For the hp rating you are looking for, most components will live for a long time (if you buy blown alky rated stuff).
