Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBC's)

Has anyone tried thermal barrier coatings in a blown alcohol deal?

Runners, valves, crown, chamber, etc.

What were your thoughts or observations?

In my experience, for thermal barrier coatings to be truly effective, they need to be a little thick for internal engine purposes. The coatings that typically work on the internals are more of a hardening type suface coating. Might buy you a few more degrees before it damages the surface, but usually better for helping protect against friction and potential oxidation. The thing to remember about coatings is that the thicker they are, the less base material you'll actually use to fit in the same hole. Coatings have typically been more of personal preference and experience. Haven't seen any magic from a coating.

Energy better spent on finding the right combination of parts, real magic comes from that and smart but wild eyed tuners and drivers.
