One item brought to my attention in the garage at Indy was the wiring of the timing controller and fuel mgmt. system. These items cannot be wired to the transbrake at the terminal strip, although this is how every car out there is wired it is in fact incorrect. You will need to install the 3 way transbrake button and a relay to do this correctly. This is something that will be checked and compliance is required. It is in the rulebook, the only item that may be wired to the terminal with the tb button is the two step.

If you use a Power Grid you will have to add a two step module to your points box, you cannot use the two step within the Grid from now on.

For non wiring guys... What is a 3way TB switch?

And what is it they are trying to police?

You'll have three poles on the button - normally closed/normally open/common. You'll power the button through the common, transbrake solenoid through the normally open, the start wire for your controllers will run to the normally closed side and be controlled by a Bosch style relay. They are trying to police delay boxes I was told. This actually works out better because a micro switch/three way switch has a much cleaner release.

Yeah im trying to figure out how to wire in my Converter Helper solonoid.

I proved to NHRA Last year that there are so many ways to go off a "zero point" when the transbrake releases that the rule they have is old and outdated.

Im still trying to get the rule "adjusted" for a new product we have that will save some lives.

I am not sure the rule is exactly the same for P/M

    rule

The rule comes from General Regs for "Classes that prohibit delay boxes"

With the two step being the only item allowable on the NO side of the TB switch, how are the WOT guys supposed to bleed fuel off? If you aren't allowed to use the two step within the Grid you can bet they're not going to allow a fuel valve to be wired in. I don't feel anyone should have to change anything until NHRA comes up with clear cut rules that are applicable to this class. The rules are far outdated by the technology that is already approved.

    2 step on grid

Got an email from Collins stating it is legal to use the two step in the power grid as long as it is activated by the third pole of a 3 pole transbrake switch. It and any other timer, solenoid, etc, can't be activated by the same pole going to the transbrake solenoid.

I hope that means that you can't actuate anything by the switch under the clutch pedal!!!

so long as it's a separate wire that can be traced somewhere, why does it matter if they share the same pole on a button? Though completely irrelevant to me, it seems very confusing

    Bullshit

the rule that was sighted was for cars that prohibit DELAY BOXES. Will the person who runs TA with a clutch or converter and can go red consistently while seeing the yellows please post his name here. maybe we can change the rule to allow you run a delay box. NOBODY in top alcohol is running a delay box. if they want to enforce rules how about Gen Reg 8.1 "Batteries must be fastened with 3/8 diameter bolts" or since most T/A use some type of battery for the electronics. Gen Reg 8:4 MASTER DISCONNECT. "Mandatory when battery is relocated","This cutoff switch must be
connected to the positive side of the electrical system and must
stop all electrical functions including magneto ignition. The off
position must be clearly indicated with the word “OFF.”

    explanation

The explanation given to me was that if a component is hooked to the same wire going to the transbrake solenoid there is no way at the track for the tech officials to know if there isn't some modifications or extra components to create a delay in that signal to the transbrake. This rule was written for Comp and Super Stock primarily where delay boxes are not allowed.

NHRA tech is catching a lot of complaints now that converter cars are competitive. Accusations have ranged from delay boxes, lock up converters to traction control.

What little bit of rt advantage a driver may be able to gain leaving off a button they lose in 400-600 rpm slippage in high gear out the back.
