    Hi Guys,

I'm having issues breaking the input shafts of my PG's. I haven't stepped up to the 1 1/4 stuff because I don't like having a mongrel piece. I currently run the Coan regular size ringless stuff which was good until this year. I was getting about a year out of them and NEVER breaking them until recently.
Anybody know if there is anything better then a Coan input for regular size inputs?

    Combo is a TD with a 526 hemi, w/1471. Weight is around 2100. Has gone 6.0's 240.

I have heard about this NASA grade stuff, is it any better?

    Any help would be great.

    Aerospace/Nasa input shaft

Coan as well as many others sell the ringless "Nasa" input shaft, though many call it aerospace alloy.

Check you bill and see what the price was, unless it was around 400 dollars you probably had a 300m shaft which is not nearly as strong. If you did and it held close to a year the aerospace shaft should hold up fine.

If the one you already had was one of the 400 dollar input shafts, you will want to upgrade as a different brand is unlikely to solve your problem. In this case go ahead and bite the bullet and get the biggest shaft/pump/converter guts combo you can and be done with the front end forever.

Phone Cameron @ Torque Converter Services in South Corolina(800-537-7416)
He builds lots of powerglides for the quick 8 outlaw/powerglide pro mod guys. Super guy to deal with. Mikes transmission is on the top of the list also. Can you give some more info on your gear ratio, tire size, launch rpm? Have you been having lots of tire shake? Are you driving through the shake or letting out?

You might as well face it. At the power level your at it's going to take one of those monster glides or something like a bruno and you'll probably have to buy two because one will always be in service mode.

Or,....you could save money and solve the problem by installing a clutch and B&J and be done with it. I'm personally facing the same decision as you. Over the last year I've put enough money into my PG to have already switched and it's all apart again. My long term goal is to install a AFT 10" 3 disc and 3 spd B&J. The guys that I run with once they have the clutch dialed in don't have to touch them between rds and just service between races.
Just a thought you might consider for a long term solution.

    Blessings..............Ron Clevenger.

    Pg

    More info.
It has the $400 input shaft.

    Mac,
No shake. I leave at 2400 rpm, have 26 total inital timing with 12 pulled out at launch coming back in over 2.5 seconds. Tires are 34.5 Hoosier, car has a 3.89 rear gear.
It leaves nice and slow 1.00 to 1.03 sixties, going 4.0's in the 1/8th between 185 to 190 mph depending on air.

It's just that this is the second one this year, about 17 total runs, first one lasted about 11 runs, the second one 6 runs.

The weird part is I got through ALL of last year on 1 input shaft.

    Ron,
I'm sure your right about upgrading. I just thought there might be a "better mouse trap" so to speak.

    Thanks again guys.

Maybe it's time to step up. I just don't know what changed from last year.

Give Cameron a call. He has guys with screw blower hemi's with his glides behind them and they don't touch them during the season.I was going to change from a glide until I got in touch with him. Also "Butch" on here runs a dragster with a screw blown BBC and a Mikes glide. He runs in the fives and doesn't hurt glides

Butch runs with us in Top Eliminator West. He was hurting his glide continualy and has now switched to a Bruno/Lenco. I think he has a couple of Monster glides for sale if your interested.

    Blessings..........Ron.

I must have misunderstood him when I spoke to him. I thought he was having good luck with Mikes glides and was only switching to a Bruno/Lenco because he wanted to try a 3 speed?
