Hi everyone, I'm getting close to making the switch from NA carbed to blown alcohol so forgive me if this is a simple question.

Everyone I've talked with who's run NA and nitrous... and made the switch to BA is encouraging me, ecxept for one person. And his comments got me thinking.

Is there any truth to BA boat engines being set up with really loose bearing clearnaces compared to BA car engines and if yes, is there a problem running an engine from a boat in a door car? The reason I ask is that I've got my eye on a BA engine from a boat that would go into a top sportsman car.

Same clearances, but the oil pickup may be in the wrong spot in the pan depending on if its a v drive or not

Well I have never found any differences in main bearing clearances. It has been awhile but we did run 192 mph. In my experience, boats don't require the same gpm as a funny car. They don't hook as hard. I don't know about the screw blower overdrive on a boat today. Twin screws and PSI's etc i think they run about 225 now. That used to be fuel boat speeds.

There are several boats TAFs in the LODBRS that are running old Jackson Engines straight from the FC I used to work on one of them in 2005

The main differences in clearances in a boat and a car that I have seen have come more in line with cylinder bore clearances, if the block is water cooled. If your running a solid block, then this is a mute point, but if you run a water jacketed block and circulate water through the block, the boat will require more clearance at ambient temperature. This is due to the cooling radiator is the whole lake and the cool water will limit the bore expansion and if the pistons are tight you might start sticking them.

So, the boat motor in the car could be setup a little loose. Just lean on her and get those pistons hot! :)

It is also true, especially in jet boats, that the crank load is pretty hard. So one would want to keep an eye on the bearings in the boat application, but going back to the car would be different.

And the tuneup..... the fuel demand will be different, so you need to know your pump flow rates and adjust accordingly as Dale related.
