YNOT Top Alcohol Dragster Phoenix testing Recap

PHOENIX - After a very busy “off season” that saw Team YNOT and Powerhouse Crew Chief Norm Grimes teaming up for the 2007 Season. A great deal of attention was going to be placed on the first outing of the new team held at the National Time Trials at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona.

Friday was spent getting new team members Norm Hill and Alan Russell, and Don Pulliman, and returning members Tim Nunes and Dirk Olson up to speed on the Grimes’ way of doing things, along with getting some last minute items finished on the car. It was agreed by all that there seemed to be some very good chemistry amongst the team.

On Saturday morning the group was ready to make its first run. With much anticipation the car was brought to the starting line, only have a brand new ignition component fail and the car would not start. The anomaly was corrected, the car was once again brought up and on a planned half track pass, Whiteley recorded a very encouraging 5.91 second pass. “Our goal was to get acclimated and collect some data on that first run” stated Grimes.

On the second lap, after a very extended wait in the staging lanes, Whiteley made another planned shut off run, this time to 1000 feet producing a very nice 5.52 at 223 miles per hour. A very stout .908 in 60 feet was an attention getter as the best the car ran last year to 60 feet was a .911
“This car was so smooth on that run” said a very happy Whiteley, “We are just tickled to death with what has happened so far this weekend.”

Sunday brought the reason teams test prior to the beginning of the season. A very mixed bag of results was brought to the table today for Team YNOT. The team continued to make head way in getting the YNOT Dragster to become more consistent. The day was planned to make intermediate runs in all three sessions. Once again the car showed great promise in the in the sixty and 660 foot numbers. On all three laps the team was able to run .905, .908 and .905 in the first sixty feet.

This was being done with the front end in the air to almost 60 feet, and in a couple of instants with the front being nearly 10 inches high. “I think that we’re gonna be looking into a wheelie bar for this car” stated crew chief Norm Grimes.

On Monday the team made a couple of launches that resulted in a wheelstand and some more shake. Crew Chief made the decision to take the car back to the shop and get ready for Pomona
