Team YNOT’s Good Effort Comes up Short. St. Jude Challenge Heads for Somona

Seattle, Washington - The song goes “rainy days and Mondays get me down”. Just replace the Monday with Sunday, and that would sum up the feeling with Team YNOT in Seattle. After the last two national events ( Topeka and Englishtown) where Jim Whiteley and the YNOT Racing Team scored their first two national event wins, hopes were running high to try and complete the “hat-trick” as it were.

The team led by Norm Grimes, worked hard and had the Whiteley solidly in the field with a 5.412 placing him number six after the only run that was able to be completed due to the rain that plagued the Seattle area for the entire weekend. This would pair him up with Mike Austin for the first round, on Sunday morning.

Sunday dawned with heavy cloud cover and light scattered showers around the track but racing got underway, with Team YNOT facing Medford, Oregon’s Mike Austin. Both cars ran nearly identical elapse times but Austin’s slightly quicker reaction time was the difference as he defeated Whiteley on a holeshot 5.42 to a quicker 5.41. Even with the first round loss Whiteley still remain solidly in the top ten in Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series National Points at number eight.

In addition, the first half of the YNOT Racing St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Challenge is off to a flying start with nearly two thousand dollars pledged and more teams and some sponsors wanting to participate in Sonoma.

Team YNOT would like to thank Permatex, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, Valspar/House of Kolor, J&A Services, Raptor Industries, Advanced Oil Field Services and Impact Race Products for their continued support.
