Baytown, Texas – How many people can say they made their first side-by-side run down a drag strip against a 4-time World Champion in a 260 mile per hour race car?

Kristen Wootton, the 32-year young rookie A/Fuel Dragster driver from Magnolia, Texas can raise her hand to this question. Even thought the driver of the METTLE-ARMOR™ Racing Oil (http://www.mettle-armor.com) sponsored A/Fuel Dragster was on the wrong end of a first round race at the 23rd running of the O’Reilly NHRA Springnationals held at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas, she gave perennial champion Bill Reichert a race he won’t soon forget.

Wootton entered this weekend’s race at HRP after making seven solo-runs in a two day period to earn her NHRA competition license in mid March. As the owner of Glass Depot made her first two qualifying efforts, by luck of the draw, there was no competitor in her lane. Wootton’s 5.51 second elapsed time recorded in the second session on Friday placed the mother of two in the number 10 qualified position. With only 14 Top Alcohol Dragsters on the property, this set up a first round match-up against 4-time and reigning NHRA World Champion Bill Reichert from Owosso, Mich.

“I’ve never run against anybody in any car on a race track,” noted Wootton after qualifying concluded Friday evening. “With so many things going on in my head remembering all the procedures involved in driving this 4,000 horsepower nitro-methane powered METTLE-ARMOR™ A/Fuel Dragster, I can just imagine how I’ll screw up when there is somebody next to me. But, I’m sure I’ll be just fine. Racing Reichert in round one will be an honor indeed.”

Wootton was racing in her first national event and she was Reichert's 147th different opponent. To the layman and even the seasoned veteran, Wootton staged the car with professionalism and perfection and actually grabbed a slight starting line advantage over the cagy veteran. The METTLE ARMOR RACING OIL A/Fuel Dragster ran side-by-side Reichert all the way down the quarter-mile, until the 4-time champion pulled away to record a 5.35 second elapsed time, against Wootton’s career best speed of 266.85 and her 5.48 second ET to take the round one win.

“We are very proud of the efforts of Kristen, Joe Monden and the entire Wootton Racing A/Fuel Dragster team,” noted Tim Charlet, Director of Sales and Marketing for METTLE-ARMOR™ Racing Oil’s parent company, Combustion Technologies USA, LLC. (http://www.combustionusa.com). “According to Monden, the oil worked amazing and better than any other racing oil he’s ever used, including synthetics. Kristen did a great job in her first race and when she raced against arguably the greatest driver in this very competitive category in her first ever side-by-side drag race-SHE TREE’D HIM. That shows us that like our CleanBOOST® PERFORMANCE MOTOR OILS she is cool under pressure.”
