Hanna and Clack set to debut at Div. 4 opener

BELLE ROSE, La. - Despite a busy 'offseason' Will Hanna and the Advanced Transmission Center/Clack Motorsports NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car team have anxiously awaited the start of the season. Their wait is nearly over as the team is set to kick off it's 2006 season during this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at No Problem Raceway Park just outside of New Orleans.

Not only will the event start their 2006 campaign, but it will be a 'home event' for the Lafayette, La., based team. Car Owner and Crew Chief Harry Clack, who won an APBA Offshore Power Boat class National Championship in 2003 before moving 'back' to the asphalt in 2004, hopes the team will have a strong debut at their 'home' track.

"We weren't able to get as much preseason testing in as we would have liked due to weather and some other delays," said Clack. "But we did have one productive outing to get everyone back up to speed. If we can get some cooperation from the weather, we'll test hard on Thursday prior to the event to be ready to go when qualifying starts on Friday. This is our home track, so we really want to do well in front of our friends and family."

Team Driver Hanna, from Richwood, Texas, hopes this weekend will serve as a spring board for a solid year. Despite only getting one run in preseason testing, Hanna has high hopes for the weekend.

"We had hoped to come into this event with one or two weekends of solid testing," commented Hanna. "But as usual, the weather and some other delays just didn't allow us to get out there. We were able to get one decent launch in at No Problem, which accomplished a few things. One it knocked the rust off for everyone on the team, myself included. Two, we feel like we have a good baseline to get down the track. So despite not making all the runs or running any big numbers in testing, we've got that proverbial first run of the year out of the way. When we show up this weekend, we can focus on testing instead of everyone being rusty. I think everyone's pretty pumped to start the season."

With highs forecasted in the high 70's and a track with near sea level altitude, Hanna feels the conditions could be right for the team to run career best numbers.

"Barring any 'liquid sunshine,' we really hope to run some good numbers," stated Hanna. "As tough as Division 4 Top Alcohol Funny Car is getting, we'll probably have to if we plan on making it very far. We're just going to focus on getting the car down the track and making a good showing for our sponsors Advanced Transmission Center, FWRC, Goodridge Hoses and Fittings, InsideTopAlcohol.com, InsideCompRacing.com, Victory Valves, RBS Superchargers, Moroso and ISC Racer's Tape."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. For the latest news in alcohol racing, stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com.
