Whiteley Moves Up to Second in National Points

Sonoma, California - Jim Whiteley had plenty to smile about even though he didn’t win the CAL-STEAM/KOHLER NHRA Division 7 Drag Races, presented by Korbel part of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series held at the Infineon Raceway.

Whiteley who reset his career best elapsed time, on three different occasions during the weekend, with the best, 5.304 second run in the final. He also recorded his fastest mph ever in the Norm Grimes tuned dragster, at 268.54 miles per hour.

In the first round Whiteley faced master fabricator Mark Niver in his A/Fueler. After the burnout Niver was shut off due to a leak of some kind. Whiteley soloed to a 5.33 at 264.

In round two Whiteley faced another Junior Fueler. This time, the very stout ride of Duane Shields in the Shortline Express. Shields’ Dana Hopewell tuned machine struck the tires at the hit and Whiteley streaked away 5.306 second run at just 264.44 miles per hour.

In the final Whiteley was matched up against the number one qualifier in Morgan Lucas. Lucas who had been also stepping up on every run made going as quick as 5.22 seconds in the semi-final, was going to be a very formidable opponent for Whiteley. Whiteley threw another 5.30 at Lucas but on this Sunday the Lucas Oil A/Fueler was better and showed it with a brilliant 5.16 second run at over 275 miles per hour.

In the long run it was a good points day for Team YNOT as they were able to move up to the number 2 position in both the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series National Point Chase and in the Division Seven Points.

The next event on the Schedule for YNOT Racing is the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals, August 16-19th at Maple Grove Raceway outside of Reading, Pennsylvania.

Team YNOT would like to thank Permatex, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, Valspar/House of Kolor, J&A Service, Raptor Industries, Advanced Oil Field Services and Impact Race Products for their continued support.
