Whiteley looking to stay perfect in Regional competition in Tulsa

Div 7 2012_lvms 016.JPG TULSA, Okla. – Hot off the heels of his second regional win of the year in Denver last week, four-time defending NHRA Division 7 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Jim Whiteley and his YNot Racing Team will be looking to keep the roll going during this weekend’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Central Regional at Tulsa Raceway Park. Whiteley is currently tied for first in national standings and leads the Central Region standings.

A win at this weekend’s event could give the Grand Junction, Colo., native a perfect scorecard under the new national points structure. With the new regional format, competitors can claim points at their best seven out of the first ten national events they attend combined with the best three out of the first six regional events.

“We would really like to do well in Tulsa,” stated Whiteley. “With the new points structure for national points, you can only claim three regional events. We have two wins now, so if we can pick up one more, we will have that column maxed out and we can focus on national events. For whatever reason we haven’t fared well in Tulsa in the past, so hopefully we can put that behind us this weekend.”

Whiteley has a pair of national event wins to go with his two divisional wins to give him one of his best starts of his career.

“We have had a good year, but we have a long way to go,” stated Whiteley. “Norm Grimes and my crew have done a fantastic job giving me a fast, consistent race car this year. We also have to thank Goodyear Tires for their help and giving us a great tire to work with. Hopefully we can have another good outing for our sponsors Goodyear, NGK Spark Plugs, J & A Services and Advanced Oil Field Services.”

Qualifying for the event will be on Friday with two sessions, and final eliminations will conclude the event Saturday evening.
