Whiteley looking for 3 in a row in Topeka

Div 7 2012_lvms 016.JPG TOPEKA, Kan. – Defending four-time NHRA Division 7 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Jim Whiteley and his YNot Racing team will be looking for their third-straight national event win during this weekend’s Dollar General Summer Nationals at Heartland Park just outside of Topeka, Kan. Whiteley enters the event second in national points standings, but has won his last two national events with dominating performances out of his Norm Grimes tuned blown alcohol dragster.

The Topeka event was not originally on Whiteley’s schedule. Given the team’s strong performance over the past few events, the decision was made to add the event while they were on a roll. This will mark the first event Jim has been to where his wife Annie will not be racing in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the same race. They became the second husband and wife in NHRA history to win at the same event in March.

“Our original plan was to not race Topeka and only run the races where both Annie and I would both race at,” said Whiteley. “The Strasburg family runs her car, and they are racing their Top Fuel car here this weekend, so that prevented us from bringing Annie’s car.

“Only having one car racing this weekend might be a little less stress, but I really enjoy seeing Annie race the Funny Car, along with our other sportsman cars,” Whiteley continued. “I am the type of guy who would rather be busy than just standing around anyway.”

The car’s recent performance has the entire team excited about their chances, wherever they show up. The team qualified No. 1, set low e.t. and won the event in altitude conditions of Las Vegas and the sea-level conditions of Houston. This weekend’s event in Topeka will be a little closer to Vegas conditions.

“Everything is really clicking right now,” commented Whiteley. “It’s up to us not to screw it up. Everyone on the team is really doing a great job right now. Norm had the car running so smooth in Houston, the only thing we changed between rounds was the fuel and the plugs. He is really doing a great job. We are really looking forward to it.

“Hopefully we can get another win for the YNot team, and for our sponsors J & A Services, Advanced Oil Field Services, Goodyear and NGK.”
