I'm new to this forum and to Alcohol. Have an injected BBC on Alcohol and I need to learn fast. Where is there some textbook info on tuning and living with Alcohol as a fuel?

    Thanks,

    Al

Now I'm very worried. Found number 5 spark plug closed. Later I was checking the nozzles and found one smaller than the other six. All marked 37, one will only pass a .035 drill, the others will pass a .037. Guess which cylinder it was in? Right, number 5! Looked real hard and do not see any Aluminum on the plugs. Coincidence?

Any help on how to index the plugs? BBC w/ Dart Pro 1 heads.

No such thing as coinincidents like that but the jet being off should not close up a plug. So the question is did you knock the plug and close it? Who gapped the plugs you or someone else? Can you see any marks on the ground strap where the piston may have hit it.

    Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I was the last person to have the plugs out. No marks on the ground strap, so I can't tell what closed the gap. There is a chance that I did it. Took all the nozzles to Ron's today and had them flow checked. They were all 2% over except two were right, and one was 20% over. They gave me a new set and I guess I'll start the process over. Tomorrow I'm going to check TDC and set the timing to 40 advance. Then I'll pull the Filter 1 and see if I find bearings:)

    Al,

Try timing at 32 to 34 degrees max.

I agree with John, 40* will be too much.

Now I'm really confused. Everyone has been telling me Alcohol needs more advance than gas. If this engine was on gas I would think 36 to 38 would be about right. Called around yesterday and was told 40 would be about right for my setup. I really need an education:)

I used to run a supper comp with a Hillborn stack injection Kinsler
    Retro fit on the shafts
I ran a 502 BBC timing no higher then 36’

Note if you run a throttle stop and air rated nozzles DO NOT
Throttle stop it at the starting line this will drain the fuel lines
With air rated hole nozzles and cause a lean condition and
It will dentate the CYL THAT GOES LEAN
Us the throttles stop as a two-step and throttle stop A percentage
Of throttle angle near the end off the ¼ mile

Did all I can do, tonight the clocks will tell the story. Just wanted to thank every body for the help.

Ran the valves, half ass-ed indexed the plugs, checked the timing and zero mark on the balancer, cleaned the fuel filters, looked in the oil filter, set the wheelie bars, did a little bit of patching to keep the tire smoke out, and so on. Whew! Thought this was supposed to be fun:)

Tale of the tape. After some jetting and chassis adjustments: 9.122 @ 153.81 MPH. Timing was not touched, it's set at 36. Holy crap! This is fun:)

Racing is fun when it all comes together and you go fast without hurting the motor. Next year you can make money (lol)
