why do you need a tach? if you do need one m.tigges is right, stay away from electronic, gotta be a cable drive deal. save your money and just buy a shift lite is my advice, you can't look at it anyway.

MSD makes a neat deal its a shift light controller you can set it for launch and set each shift point where you want the rpm its pretty cool.

The only reason you need a tach is for setting the idle.

After going through three Auto Meter Monster tachs in one weekend about 7 years ago we've never run one since and don't need one. About the time you get used to it, it screws up. You're better off getting a feel for whatever RPM you launch or burn-out at than to sit and stare at a tach that may or may not work. It's not that hard.

I've never seen a tach last long enough in a funny car to make it worth while, anyway. I remember a few years ago watching Mert Littlefield open the roof hatch and throw the tach through it after it fell off in his lap during the burn out. It looked like a round meteor going through the air with red, green, blue, white, black, and yellow wires streaming behind it. Now that was funny.

The most accurate tach I've ever used is the good ol' Moroso mechanical cable drive deal that we have in our TAFC. The Autometer guy that was helping me install their datalogger just about had a heart attack when he saw it. He said that it looked like it was made before he was born, and offered me a new electronic one for free...but I didn't take it...true story.

funnycarguy, do you use one of those MSD units? I was looking at them at the end of last year but was wondering how well they worked...

I also would like to know a little more about the MSD unit. Would that be compatable with a mallory super mag?
Throwing the tack out the hatch, I can alomst see that........Thats funny
    Thanks again John
