just my $.02 here... your oil needs are pretty dependent on having the right clearances in your rotating assembly. and if it were my motor (assuming it's a roller/good springs) i wouldn't run it without having oil restrictors in it. then 50, 60, 70wt depending on where i ended up pressure wise and what the bearings looked like after a few hits. sean

    Sbc

The last post is correct, with one addition, depending on the power output with a "standard" type block (little M, Bowtie, ect.) when you start making power the caps walk and this seems to affect the oil pressure negatively....or so it seems on my stuff.....

on small blocks over here we are using mono grade 60W oil, we are running 9500rpm no problem with fuel mix....but big clearances and contantly bearings changes....

i have a small mopar iron block (318 block)
    too many mods to list
    gmc 6-71
    mw rear end+727 trans
    alum heads
    too many customs parts

    pistons we use almost 0.012
    mains/rods/ something 0.003-0.004

and the most important for us: oil pressure, we up the press until it leaks on main rear seal.....our main issue is the block....

this is an example of engine, for each engine there is a good clearances/oil conditions.....
