Get paid first. Wire transfer is foolproof, also letter of credit works, but is more time consuming and costly. With an LC the buyer deposits the money with his bank, the bank then notifies your bank, you make shipment and present the documents to your bank and get paid. The buyer has no recourse.

There are more scams out there than ever before. Even certified checks are being forged, and are fooling US banks (the money is credited to your account until the check is rejected 2 weeks later and the bank takes "their" money back). Wire transfer is 100% safe. There are now phony escrow services that "clear" transactions so be careful. If there is any mention of sending you more money than what you are selling the item for to cover agent fees or to send to another individual IT IS a scam. See if the mailing address exists, some are mail drops.

    ship over seas

Hi I'm the guy that wants to buy the engines from DJ and the problem go's both ways because we have to see when parts arrive if and what's in the package.A few years ago we bought a engine from a guy in florida he put for sale on the alcohol site and turned out to be a piece of junk and could'n use one part from the engine. We have no problem paying for the parts and are buying from guys like Dave Wells,Gary Burgin and Don Kanenwisher.Al we want is to get the stuf we pay for and the rest is no problem we are no african scammers,we are selling and buying parts and a lot of it comes from the States with no problem. There's one problem we need to have a lower shipping invoice due to the high taxes we have to pay on parts coming in like + 30 %.We are the only dragracers in Belgium and it's twice as hard to keep our funnycar running with no sponsering.
    Greetings from Belgium Europe Danny

    paypal

To the post suggesting Paypal. I would advise against any foreign transactions with them as it is VERY expensive. I got charged $179 dollars for a payment of $5000 dollars from Australia. When I complained they just said too bad. Wire transfer of twice that cost me $20 dollars. Also a user of paypal can pay by credit card and if he doesnt like what he gets can initiate a chargeback and that is hard to deal with as you have very little to say about it no matter what the circumstances. paypal

as the gentleman in belguim say it works both ways. i got burned for 500.00 on ebay and paypal took almost sixty days to do a proper investigation as they say and when it was all said and done they said it had been past 45 days it was out of there jurisdiction. i've done lots of buisness with aust, new zeeland and never have had a problem with wire transfers in to my bank account cost 20.00 also i think as long as both parties have some references to check with you are safe racers overall are one big family and think as a whole we all try to look out for one another and try to weed out the flakes

Well it's obvious that Danny wants to buy DJ's motors and DJ wants to sell, but the age old problem of both parties being unknown to each other is the sticking point.

Before I start taking flak for this post I don't know either of these guys and my comments are about the situation; not the players...

DJ, the only sure fire way of being paid is wire transfer before you send the goods (which leaves Danny wondering if he might get shafted) OR get paid by Confirmed Irrevocable Letter of Credit. Basically this document is arranged by Danny through his bank in Belgium with your local bank (called the "corresponding bank") In simple terms it is a uncancellable check to you. After you have shipped you go down to the corresponding bank with the Letter of Credit and the Original documents requested on the letter of credit and they transfer the payment funds into your account. I just collected British Sterling594,000 from a client in Vietnam in this way. If you think Europeans are twisty try dealing with those guys !

Danny, the only way you can be sure about the quality of what DJ is selling is to see it for yourself and then watch it being packed and taken away by the carrier. I guess that two blown motors must be costing you at least USD20,000 and likely much more. If you cannot go see the parts get a third party inspection agency to do it for you. SGS Quality has representation throughout the world; you just advise them the task and specification and they tell you how much it will cost. Admittedly this is hard work and it will likely cost you at least USD500 but then you know whats coming your way and its cheaper than doing it yourself.

Finally US guys need to consider our situation in Europe or elsewhere with regard to Import Duty. Customs officials consider the value and description of goods given on the shipping invoice to assess the amount of duty payable. Buyer and Seller would be advised to discuss the description and value in advance. Used autoparts are cheaper to import than raceparts ! However make sure that your document is realistic. No Customs guy is dumb enough to think that an engine is only worth USD1.00 !

If anyone has any questions I have a simple shipping primer for overseas shipments that I can send. Just mail me direct with subject "I want shipping Primer" and I will fire it back to you as a pdf file.

    shipping overseas

Hi Guys ,the " gentlemans" name is Danny.Times have changed big time over the years with computers and stuf. With all the scammers it's not easy for anybody,we buy and sell stuff our selfs ( we have a repair shop for US cars ) and you have to watch out and keep your eyes open.We know storys of people over here selling parts and cars with payment by cheque and they give you a cheque that includes more than you ask for the parts or car ,the rest is for shipping costs included and you have to send the rest of the money back to them when everything is payed for.So you have received no money for your car or parts and put your money on top.Our story from last year with the guy we bought the engine from in Florida (maybe someone of you guys know him be aware for him ??) he's name is Kevin DeLorenzo and this guy is no good.Grtz Danny
