Anybody heard of adding oil drain lines to the head/valvecover to drain oil back to the pan. Suppose to help get the oil back down to the pan and out of the head. Trying to help get oil out of the V/covers and more in the pickup.
Where do they go back to in the pan???
    Any help??

On a serious dragrace piece that only runs wot 1/4 mile at a time, I don't think you could gravity drain enough(if any at all) oil to make any difference at all. Some drysump roundyrounders suck it out of the valvecovers but that is a whole different story. If you must run a wetsump, better off concentrating on improving pan and windage control.

That is not true, i worked on a CJ Batten B4 that had 4 # 12 a/n fittings and lines coming out of the head, 2 on each side and back to the pan, and it worked great.;)

I stand corrected. I guess it depends on your particular application. Can you position fittings(pickups) where they would be in oil under acceleration? What about restricting oil flow to top? Can you restrict any without killing rockers/pushrods??

Eli, just curious, how did you determine that it worked great, were you able to measure the return oil or did it solve a certain problem?

    wet sump oil drain

On that batten engine are those -12 lines putting oil back into the oil pan , or are they allowing crank case pressure to the top of the engine in order to help neutralize the pressure between the top and bottom end?
If the bottom end has a greater pressure than the top ,the pressure from the bottom can slow down the the internal drain back.
(kind fo like throwing water at a fan)

There is an interesting thread on this same subject on page four titled "getting rid of oil in the valve covers"

On Some Of The Big Chief, brodix Heads, The Oil Returns Are Pretty Small, and Can Hold A Few Quarts Of Oil In The Covers..i've Seen Some Plumb Some Lines Back To The Pan. Keeps It From Hitting The Rotating Assembly Also

Blown375, the four external lines are primarily for draining the oil from the four cam boxes back to the oilpan. Whether or not there would be any backflow through those lines depends upon how the motor was setup (ie: breathers in the cam boxes, breathers in the valley cover).
