I have a canton oil pan with all the trap doors and a windage tray. It has a plug to check oil capacity in the side ,at the bottom of the hole the pan has 9 qts in it. I have been told that I need more oil in it than 9 qts with the remote filter I should be abale to get 10.5 Qts in it. If I put more oil than the 9 qts in the pan the windage tray is totally covered and defeets the purpose of having it. I can't use a deeper pan it will hit the ground and the pan I have already has the kick outs on the sides so what I'm asking is will the 10.5 Qts of oil be enough to run this engine it's a Rodeck chevy engine. just looking for info to see if any one else has a opinion Thanks

You can also install a Moroso 3 quart oil accumulator.

Your oil pressure gage will tell you how much oil you need. Check it after the burnout and when the chutes hit. When the motor is running a lot of that oil is not in the pan. Better to start out with more oil then cut back as you can. Oil is cheap compared to a motor.

this engine does not have any oil to the top end the block is not drilled for it we have to lube everything after each pass all the oil stays in the bottom. The valve covers have spring oiler in them but that's it for the top end.

The pan may only hold 9 but the filter will hold 1 and between the lines and what is stuck inside your engine you need another 1/2 quart. Thus totaling 10.5 qts.

too much oil is never a problem. i burnt a rear main once from not enuff oil. also remember, your just trying to make laps and learn the first time out. dont hurt it by trying to worry if the crank is splashing in oil.

as a side story:D a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away) i was working at a gas station. we changed the oil in a customers car. he left and went home. the next day he came back demanding to speak to the manager. the manager came out and asked what was wrong. the customer replied that someone didn't put enough oil in his motor when they changed it. my boss asked "are you sure"? the customer replied "yes it took 4 cases till i could start to see it in the valve covers"  ....... and yes this was a true story.

    oil level in alky motor

too much oil usually isn't the problem. too little oil can be a very big problem. i can guarantee you with wet sump that oil won't be anywhere near that crank after the burnout, so you don't have to worry about it during the run. that being said, i think when i was helping a roots guy with a wet sump fc pan we ran 12-14 qts in it. that's how much i would start with. with a dry sump, you can only hope there's enough oil in the pan to get close to the windage tray at the end of a run....don't think it will be a problem.

also as a rule of thumb, kill it quick in the shutdown area with the kill switch. your bottom end will thank you.

    Accusump(s)?

Does anyone make a larger than 3 quart Accusump type deal? Flip side of this question, has anyone found it necessary to run twin Accusumps in the face of a small wet sump pan volume?
