ok bit of a wierd one

i have a fathead hemi with steel exhaust valves weight 166 grams,
what kind of spring would cope with 9500/10000 rpm at a normal lift for a blown hemi

that is around 40 grams heavier than a Ti inlet valve FYI

would the pac 1360s be ok,

    anyone know?

    thanks

    valve

I don.t or wouldn't want to run that RPM with that heavy a valve. Besides getting into valve float. the springs wouldn.t last as long. I don't know if you have seen some of the damage valve float can do. It can get ugly.. I am sure there a lot's of people that do run it that way. We worry about keeping everything else as light as possible. for RPM's & reliability.Valve train is very important Don

Putting ti exhaust valves in there will more than pay for itself just in spring life. With that weight vs. RPM, float would be a concern to me. You'll be beating up the head and the seat, and that's the absolute BEST scenario. You can contact Ken @ Motorsports Unlimited in the Performance Directory on this site and he can answer all your questions about the springs; also if you're willing he can set you up with the correct exhaust valve.

We must have posted at the same time, your 2nd post wasn't up when I responded. I would contact Ken, he knows everything there is to know about all the PAC springs as he is their biggest distributor.

thanks Don sorry i was a bit vauge with my origional question its still about the same lift ect and just a little lower rpm so i thought it was reasonably asked, but i can see how i misguided you with your answers

    PAC springs

We have run PAC valve springs on our alky car, you can get them in various seated pressures. The one we have run successfully has about a 640 lb seated pressure at 2.050, that might be enough for you. Make sure your valve train is stout though, and there is enough oil going to the push rod cup. There is also a higher pressure spring available, about 750 lbs on the seat, we couldn't make push rods live long with those.

ken do you have any lifter problems at that presure?

we have been thinking to start with a spring around those numbers but having never run that high presure was wondering what the spring life/lifter life pushrod life was like,
I have manton rocker gear with standard bae exhaust rockers on that engine, on the blower motor i have read ex rockers im wondering if i will need them on the turbo engine,

No, we didn't have any problems, but we had the lifters re-built with stronger rollers by Ken Juszyck. I think his contact number is somewhere on this site.

After a pm and a point in the right direction from a member here I called Andrew and Jamie at NRE,

those guys are so helpfull they are going to get a valve the weight of mine and run it on their spintron in a head so i get a definitive answer and not just a guess,
