I need some suggestions on what to look for here. My glide seems to work fine except it won't engage in 1st gear. It will back me up after the burnout, but when I put it in 1st, push the button, and let off the foot brake at idle it rolls. It did it on my first outing, and I thought I had accidentally selected 2nd gear, but apparently not.

I called Mike (Mikes Transmission) and he said it might be a stuck check ball in the valve body. Is there anything else you guys can think of that I need to look for?

    Thanks,

    -Brian

    Trans brake problem.

Are you saying that 1st gear works....but the transbrake doesn't engage or hold the car?

If so....do you have any electronics? delay box?

I can tell you from experience that they can defy logic. By-pass any electronics you have and try the trans brake.

I had a new delay box that appeared to supply 12V to the TB.....but it would not engage....when I bypassed it it was fine. A software update fixed the delay box problem.

Yeah, 1st gear works fine, but the brake doesn't engage. It does engage in reverse. The little mushroom on the back of the tranny pops in and out when I push the button, just like it should, but she don't hold. Yes I have a K&R box.

I agree with above i had a delay box and had same problem as yours. I did not require the delay box so i wired transbrake direct thru msd box problem went away.

Is this a new trans or a new problem?

If it's a new problem, what have you done since it last worked?

If it's a new trans, check that you are getting full battery voltage to the solenoid when it's not working (under load). If you are, it's an internal problem. I had this and it was the valve body. That's the next easiest thing (do you know someone you can borrow one from to try?). If that doesn't work, it maybe that the housing hasn't been drilled correctly. Check with the valve body manufacturer how the housing should be drilled.

    Scouder,
Some valve bodies use the 1-2 shift valve for a switch valve instead of a check ball. Make sure it is assembled properly and floats free. It should move easy by shaking the valve body back and forth.
