Thompson Make Second Stop in Charlotte

Charlotte, NC - Oregon’s own Clint Thompson made his second appearance of the year at ZMax Raceway in Charlotte making him some what of a regular even though his home is on the other side of the continent. In his last appearance at ZMax he was driving his Pro Extreme Camaro at the ADRL race where he had a successful outing. This time we was back behind the wheel of his Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals. “We are out on tour for the rest of the season, living the racer's dream on the road racing every weekend” Clint said.

Clint qualified in the twelfth position with a 5.87. "I had a great run going in the first qualifier, career best half track numbers but then I had a valve cover leak which got me a little sideways in high gear so I had to shut it off. But I still ran a 5.87 which qualified us" Thompson said.

On the third qualifying round, Clint had the quickest 60 and 330 foot times of the event but broke a lifter right at the 1-2 shift and banged the blower which necessitated an engine change before round one.

In the first round, Clint took on Todd Veney who had qualified fifth with a 5.66. At the hit, both cars left nearly together with Veney getting a slight advantage of the starting line. Clint then began to get out of shape and wisely lifted. Veney was on a strong pass and lit up the score board to move on to the next round. “We ended up spinning the tires before the 60’ against Todd Veney. The track was gooey so not too great. The car is really trying to run good so maybe this weekend in Dallas will be better. Charlotte was not representative of what we are capable of. The car is running better than it looks on paper. Our early numbers were right with Manzo, we just had some bad luck".
