Carter looking to stay on a roll in Norwalk

NORWALK, Ohio - Fresh off his third win of the season a few weeks ago in Martin, Mich., IHRA Alcohol Funny Car driver Thomas Carter will be looking to stay on a roll during this weekend's Skull Gear World Nationals presented by AC Delco at Norwalk Raceway Park. Carter and his "Jawbreaker" Motorsports team enter the event second in points, trailing Mark Thomas by a mere 46 points.

Carter, a practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Victoria, Texas, is quick to point out his success this year hasn't came from record-shattering performances, but from the consistency of his Jeff Fowler tuned racecar.

"We're just going to stay focused on what we've been doing," said Carter. "We just have to keep getting the car down the track every run and try to get a little quicker each time. Norwalk is usually a tough race; everyone has their car set on kill. The IHRA track crew does an excellent job of preparing all the tracks on the tour, and we feel Norwalk will be no exception."

Despite the hype and media attention that goes along with the biggest event on the IHRA tour, Carter plans to block that out and focus on his job.

"If I learned anything this year from the wins, it's that it doesn't really matter what happens in the other lane," stated Carter. "You can't control what your competition is doing, so it does no good to focus on it. All you can do is run your race in your lane. As tough as these eight car fields are, anyone can beat you at anytime. You just have to go out there, do your job and get the car down the track. We've proved you don't have to be the quickest car on the property to win."

Qualifying begins on Friday, and concludes on Saturday evening with the IHRA Nitro Jam show. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
