    Hey guys,
Looking for your opinion on what kind of performance gain there could be by switching my lencodrive from a 2spd. to a 3spd.? I was thinking that over this winter I could add a section to the transmission and gear it as a 3spd. Would this show any kind of measurable performance gain? This is being run in a 150" blown altered with a keith black olds motor and big chief heads. The blower is a 14-71 hh psi roots. Any opinions would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Eric

We switched from a 2 speed to a 3 speed in a dragster and saw about a tenth and a half pick up. I know the rpm's don't drop of near as much at the shift points and the car charged harder through the middle with the 3 speed.

Is the three speed as consistent as the two speed run to run?

3 speed gives one more chance to strike the tires, so consistency could be affected by that. JT, curious as to what trans and rear gearing you ran in 2 spd vs 3 spd config.

I knew a guy with a blown alcohol altered who really wished he'd gotten a three speed Lencodrive instead of two.

    Eric,
If you aren't close to overdriving the tires and its bogging the motor a bit more than you like (like it feels a little lazy for the power you're making), a 3 speed would definitely help. Anything you can do to keep the motor up where it's making power longer will always result in quicker and faster runs.

It was a Lencodrive with a 1.68 low gear. Now I have a 1.64 low with 1.28 second gear that keeps the motor up in the power band. I don't remember how far the rpm's dropped at the shift with the 2 speed, but they only drop to around 6600 with the 3 speed at the shift. I shift the car at 8100.

hey guys, thanks for the input. I think the 3 speed would def. help my cause. After more research though and looking at the cost to convert it, I have thought about just selling the 2 speed lencodrive and switch it over to a 3 speed with a clutch.

Donald you know that i can't stay out of trouble, this whole racing business is nothing but trouble!

    Dave,
Haven't really thought about how much I would want for it, if your interested feel free to give me a call though and we can discuss.
