We Run a procharged mustang that has a small block ford and we are thinking of upgrading to either a hemi or tfx what are the pros and cons of each and which could you find the best deal on used or should we buy new? we will be running efi alcohol with a procharger we run a coan 1.85 first gear turbo 400 and the car currently weighs 2450 with driver we run a dry block and heads . goal is to make around 3000 hp . We are wanting to change as we have reached our limit with what we have and have had to many broken blocks etc.. Thanks guys for your input .

Your question is sort of confusing- TFX is a block that uses the hemi heads just like the Brad Anderson block does and also the Keith Black block. So TFX is a hemi. Now another choice is the Miner Bros motor. It is a combination of big block chevy and Chrysler Hemi. The best features of both without the bad features of either. I run one and I wouldn't go back to the more traditional hemi (BAE,TFX, KB) Good luck in your research- Dave Germain

I think the 481x was called an oldsmobile- it did look like a big block chevy. It is different than the Miner Bros/Fontana motor which looks like a hemi. I don't know what blocks the 481X heads fit on. Try calling Alan Johnson. They make the TFX blocks and the 481X heads. Dave Germain

    MBR combo vs. classic Hemi

What are the drawbacks of each engine type (Hemi - CBB).
What differences on MBR vs Chev and Hemi

The MBR motor has big block chevy bore spacing so it allows a 4.500 bore size. The crank has big block chevy main journals and chrysler rod journals. it uses a front crank support. The rear main bearing is the thrust bearing and it is a larger bearing than the chrysler. The MBR motor oils from the back of the block to the front. This feature is the one that I think seperates it from the other hemi headed motors used in top alcohol competition. The normal chrysler configuration oils from front to back. This means the rear main is the last thing to get oil. The oil is preheated by running through the motor oil passages. The end result is the MBR motor doesn't hurt rear main bearings like so many other top alcohol motors. The rear main is bigger, gets oiled first so it doesn't blacken the crank or kill the rear main. Everybody is partial to whatever motor they run but I have ran both the traditional style chrysler hemi and the MBR hemi. I wouldn't ever go back to the traditional chrysler. Dave Germain

Since it is a Mustang then why not use a Ford Boss Hemi or a BBF Wedge head?

    A Ford?

That's it, leave it to a Ford guy to throw a wrench in the gears. Sorry Mike, I couldn't resist it. :D
