Bought a used BBC cast iron Mark IV block and it has 2 tapped holes in the front main cap. If you are looking at the front of the block you can see through the holes, each one is located inbetween the main studs. Have you ever seen this, what are they used for?

I run the Summers Bros gear drive and we had to tap the front main cap.

Have been running it for three years, great gear drive no problem with front mains.
