without sounding too dumb I would like to ask differences between the two

here are some incrementals in Atlanta on Friday in the TAFC

    60ft-0.972 sec., 330ft-2.539, 660ft-3.768/201.76mph
    60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.545, 660ft-3.765/204.01mph
    60ft-0.955 sec., 330ft-2.509, 660ft-3.735/203.71mph

the 60ft and 330 are not much different than OUTLAW Pro Mod times

what is the difference between 330ft to the 660ft (1/8mile)

    is it clutch? weight? areodynamics?

    thanks for any help

Rickey, the difference is weight, aerodynamics and horsepower. Those FC at Atlanta are using PSI blowers. The PSI only requires around 150 HP to turn where as a Rootes blower take 400-500 HP to turn plus the PSI does not heat the incoming charge or air like a Rootes blower. So right off the bat you can see that a BAE engine with a Rootes blower making (just an example) 2400 HP will make probably up around 2700 HP with a PSI. HP means speed and that tied in with the slick bodies and weights of down around 2400 lbs makes them fly.

thanks Mike but some outlaw pro mods run screw blowers, (Todd Tutterrow)

and the outlaws are not 2700lbs

so sounds like the only difference is bodies
    and driver location

They arlso use PSI's on ProMods in Australia and they can run 24%+ MPH but appear to be limited by traction due to having a suspension so the ET's are not equal to the FC's which is also probably that case with Todd plus the aerodynamics.

Are OUTLAW Pro Mods ever built with solid suspension? Why would the suspension hurt their downtrack incrementals. I know nothing about suspension, but I'd think it would affect the 60', 330' more? Why would that not be?

I have often wondered that if you were going to build a pure OUTLAW ProMod then why not extend the wheelbase and use solid suspension. I believe the only real requirements that I know of is it has to have two doors and the driver has to sit to one side. Some all ready have removable bodies. If I did that then I would also run a PSI. Hugh Scott is the only Outlaw with big tires that I know that has really un a screw blower and he was always having trouble with it.

This was done out here in Sacramento, CA. I believe the man's name was John Campos? 68 Camaro body, solid rear susp, and supercharged elephant motor. This was back in the early 90's. Car was parked for many reasons, one of which was the lack of events that would allow the solid susp. Quick car, 6.70's as I recall.

Didn't scotty cannon's first blown alky promod (1992?) have a olds funny car body with doors cut into it? It was the era of the batmobiles and it was banned by season end. Some of the valving on those new santuffs may be as close to a solid suspension as ever. The scruggs corvette is one of the baddest out there (SBC with a screw blower - 3.90s in the eighth on some rough tracks)
