Synoil Team Enjoying Drama Filled Season

Ken Webster, the driver of the Synoil Top Alcohol Funny Car, has made the highlight reels and accomplished more in the first half of the season than many do in their career.

At the first race of the season in Pomona, CA, recording a 5.61 elapsed time best and advanced to the semi final round, where he lost a very close race to past world champ Tony Bartone. From there it was the event in Las Vegas, NV where the blower banged the burst panel so violently, it blew the body off and into a “million” pieces- so to speak.

The new Impala body was on the car for the Division 6 LODRS BC Lordco Nationals at Mission Raceway. The sea-level track is just the place they want to be as they are working hard to get the car into the 5.50 elapsed time zone. “We know it will be tough but in order to challenge for the division title you have to be able to take on the best in the division,” stated Webster. “We will be very aggressive this weekend to try and accomplish our goals”.

In the first qualifier Friday afternoon, Webster got real loose and had to pedal the car, turning in a 6.05 elapsed time. On Saturday, the car was on a real strong pass, but right at half track, the valve train failed and he coasted through to a mid 6 second elapsed time.

It was down to one shot to put up a solid number. Team tuner, Ryan Protz had the car set up to run a mid to low 5.70, and that it just what it did, recoding a 5.73 elapsed time at 252 mph, good enough to qualify in the forth position. Their first round opponent was Rob Atchison.

Webster and team owner Geoff Goodwin, would like to thank their sponsors including Synoil, Waylan transport, Landale Signs and Neon, Southgate and Hogeson Pontiac, North Gate Industries KEW Services and all their other assoc. sponsors, for all their support.

The crew includes Crew Chief Wally Protz, tuner Ryan Protz and (Car Chief) Tom Goodwin. Also thanks to all the part time crew who work their butts off at various events.
