    Straightening titanium valves

I would never run a valve that has been straightened, someone told a friend of our's they could do it and had a tool to straighten them and with in a pass or two the valves broke and destroyed the whole motor.( Very Costly ) I just do not think it is worth the risk. Just my two cents worth. Richard Putz

I think its crazy, but fuelers do it. At least boat fuel guys do.

Ti workhardens easily so it weakens the valve when straightened. They are really tough so they can take some abuse but I don't think a 100.00 valve is worth the risk.

Triple T makes a nice tool but straightening is more for iconnel exhaust valves. If you have to straighten them vs. buying new then maybe don't run titanium valves and/or fix the problem itself. At around $100/ea., it's much cheaper to replace a valve or two than what Richard explained; hell you can barely ship heads to get fixed (there/back) for less than a few hundred.

Told you so... I still think its crazy... but it must work.

I was laughing at my shop one day. I was grinding valves to withing .0002 on a low hp deal. Then I thought of the fuel valve straightening fixture. HAHA

    Back from the dead ,

Saw this tool when I was snooping around ,have a few valves that are maybe a few thou out of wack . Aside from the obvious counter argument, is this a viable option ? I am not talking a valve that is cocked over .100" just .005"

    This tool is $150

The fuel teams straighten valves because they run iconel exhaust valves, not Ti.

Has it been done? Yes. Is it right? No.

We have straightened inconnel exhaust valves on our setup. The intake valves were not tweaked at all, but the exhaust valves were all tweaked slightly. Our cylinder head builder says the tweaking comes from shutting down the motor when the valves are still hot and sticking open, the heat causes them to get tweaked.

Straightening these we used a collet to chuck them in and then used a dial indicator measuring the runout/tweak and then straightened them.
