Aussie Steve Harker notches another win in Texas

Rusk, TX.- Steve Harker scored his second win of the season in as many races defeating local Texan, Kebin Kinsley in the final at this past weekends round 5 of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Cherokee County Motorsports Park.

Harker struggled in qualifying to get his 06’ Chevy Monte Carlo to hook up and run the numbers, but was able to lay down a 6.026, 205.47 mph run to place him fourth in the field.

First round of eliminations paired Harker against number 3 qualifier and veteran division four racer, Jimmy Jones making this a re-match of the Dallas final. Again Harker prevailed with the win in a close race, 5.960, 246.08 mph to Jones’ 5.963, 246.44 mph pass.

Harker matched-up against Lee Callaway in the semi-finals and had the better car in this race. Harker left first and increased his lead at almost every incremental to take the win with a 5.904 seconds pass at 247.43 mph to Callaway’s strong 6.000 at 240.42 mph run.

The final round match-up was a good looking race; Kinsley came out of the number 1 qualifying position and was out to give Harker a run for the money. Kinsley was first out of the gate, a 0.55 reaction time to Harker’s 0.74 and both cars were moving around some on the track and swapped lead several times over the course of the race. Harker took the win by eleven inches at the finish line with a quicker, 5.940 at 242.98 mph to Kinsley’s 5.961, 239.41 mph pass.

“We are extremely happy to have won this weekend” comments Harker “We had been trying some new engine combinations at this race and the track had proved to be tricky but came around on Sunday.” “We are looking forward to getting to Topeka to really push the car harder on a National event track and are confident we can get the car running in the low 5.50’s with the new data we have.”

With this win Harker will take a firm hold over the point leads in the Division 4 series and is looking good heading into the O’Reilly Summer Nationals at Topeka, KS across June 1-3.
