Consistency takes Harker to Semi Finals in Houston

Houston, TX – Another strong performance from Aussie Division Four Champion, Steve Harker and team sees the OMS Graphics, Southern Safety Supply, and Lucas Oil Monte Carlo repeat a semi-final finish at the O’Reilly Spring Nationals March 28-31.

The weekend started out strong for Harker, who immediately claimed the number 1 qualifying spot right off the trailer with a 5.63et at 256mph pass and only extended the team’s lead after the second session with 5.59et at 257mph pass but it would come down to the final qualifier for the weekend as Harker again repeated with another stellar 5.59et at 258mph pass only to be bumped to the number two spot by Jay Payne’s 5.58et at 257mph pass.

First round match ups for the Top Alcohol Funny Car Class paired Harker along side the 15th qualifier Alexis De Joria in the Tequila Patron entry. De Joria was quick to take an advantage off the start line over Harker, however the Patron Camaro went up in smoke at the hit and Harker cruised on by taking a clear win with a 5.62et at 256mph pass.

Harker than moved on to Sunday’s round two match up against the Glacier Clear Water Mustang of Cy Chesterman. Again Chesterman took the star line advantage over Harker but it would not be enough to hold off the hard hitting Harker who laid down another consistent 5.60et at 255mph pass taking the win over Chesterman’s 5.79et at 249mph pass and moving the Aussie team into the semi-finals.

Their second straight semi-final debut would prove to be the toughest race of the weekend for Harker and team as the Australian veteran lined up against New Jersey Favorite, Mickey Ferro in the Ryco Hydraulics Funny Car. Harker, who struggled on the tree all weekend, would face the music in this round as Ferro took a major hole shot over Harker and charged on through taking an upset win with a 5.66et at 255mph pass over a quicker but loosing Harker’s 5.62et at 256mph pass.

“It’s tough when you beat yourself out there. We had one of the most consistent cars all weekend and provided some great racing for our sponsors and fans so it’s a tough break when the car’s running great but the driver isn’t. At least we can learn from this and I’ll be better prepared going into our next race.” Said Harker

The Harker Motorsport Team move onto the LORDS Division Four Event held in Dallas, TX April 11-13 where Steve will be joined by youngest daughter, Diana in the Alcohol Dragster Class.
