Ok new motor is done, originaly I was going to use the chrysler style stuff, set the car up with 1/4 mid plate, now going to use the chevy 168 tooth and the starter mounted on mid plate. Mid plate Is 1/4 thick is this enough for this? Or should I do something different? Trying to get this hammered out this week. Getting ready for final fitment in the car. Also this is a outlaw drag radial car with stock front frame and so front mount is not an option.

I have this on my Hemi. It's called the Carl spearing starter pocket for a trick ti can. I use a24 volt meizere starter. However older cans use a 166a flywheel requiring the starter block to be milled down .060. No problems what so ever

Outlaw68, a 168 flywheel maybe will not fit insides can that has been recently certified and has had the inner shield moved forward in accordance with SFI specs. Make sure you check that the flywheel fits in the can. If it does now and you are going to send the can off to have it recert then it might not fit when it comes back. This is why we have all switches to 162 or 166 tooth flywheels.

Mine will be going into a reid or Jw case bellhousing, automatic. So this may be an issue. I have yet to buy a flexplate, I am just trying to think it through and make sure not to wish I had done something different.
So thank you for bringing the I.D of the can to my attention.

    Start and mid plate help

    Hi,

I have just completed my setup. I have a Meziere flex plate and Meziere chevy starter 10 pitch. I have drilled and tapped the block on the pass. side and mounted the starter pretty much like on a chevy. I do have the small dia flex plate that fits inside a trick can with the correct liner setup.

I can get the oil pan off without removing the starter and so far everything seems to work fine.

Does anyone know if the McAmis starter location allows the pan to be removed without removing the starter?

Remove the stud all together, or at the time of the starter removal.

I'm debating to go with the McAmis location or the block mount starter on my new scattershield. I talked to Bonefonte yesterday and they told me the block mount works really well. My midplate already has the TMRC starter location, but that would not deter me from changing if the block mount was superior to the mid plate mount.

Sometimes with the block mounted starter with the small tooth count flexplates you just cant get the starter drive pinion close enough to the flexplate starter ring without hitting the oil pan. The Ford style starter mounted on the mid plate is easier to work. You can also get a 12 tooth pinion for the starter from Synder Motorsports which helps a lot in closing that gap.

Yes, my oil pan is notched. All studs in block. Have to remove the oil pan nut directly behind starter with a wrench. Starter mounted to mid plate. TMRC prommod mount w/ 24v starter. I can pull engine or trans/ bell without touching it. If you would like some pics, pm me your email.
Also, Browell makes a can that will fit over the big ring gear, I just changed mine from outdated lenco bell to one of his.
